In 1875, Jacamiah S. Daugherty and Charles U. Connellee purchased the land that would become Eastland and plotted a townsite. County voters opted to move the county seat from Merriman and to this new site, as it was closer to the center of the county.
The town was named in honor of Captain William M. Eastland, who participated in the battle of San Jacinto.
The city's growth was assured when, in 1880, the Texas and Pacific Railway was given a number of town lots in order to build tracks through the community.

Eastland was finally incorporated on April 6, 1897. The town grew slowly in the first decades of the 20th century, reaching just 855 in 1910.
But then Eastland County experienced a dramatic oil boom from 1917 to 1922, and the city was soon growing rapidly. Our population increased fourfold between 1910 and 1920.
With a population of just under 4,000 people, Eastland is the ideal place to live, raise children and retire. Our quaint historic downtown square has been described as being very "Mayberry like!" Our citizens are proud, friendly and ready to welcome you to our community!

Eastland is centered between two accredited colleges; Ranger College located 8 miles East of Eastland, and Cisco Junior College 10 miles West of Eastland. Both colleges provide extracurricular activities for students like athletics, band, drill team, etc.
Eastland Memorial Hospital is an 83-bed acute care general hospital. It is a modern medical center that serves 18,000 residents of Eastland County. It provides a full range of inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory services. There are also five fully staffed medical clinics located close to the hospital.
For a small community, we offer a large variety of delicious cuisine including Mexican, Italian, Chinese, and Texas style barbecue, just to name a few!
Eastland County's agriculture is just as diverse as its soils - from Longhorn cattle to peanuts and from water-carved gullies to rich fine, sandy loam. No matter what one's preference, it can be found here in the Cross-Timbers geographic area of Texas.
For hunters, Eastland County abounds with deer, turkey, ducks, quail, doves and other small game. All kinds of freshwater fish such as bass, catfish, crappie, and hybrids can be caught within our town's borders.
Lake Leon and Lake Cisco are public lakes where a fishing tournament is being held nearly every weekend, but some say the best fishing is in our private lakes and ponds.
For lovers of water sports, Lake Leon also provides opportunities boating, swimming and water skiing. We also have a public park with swimming pool plus a playground and cookout area. In addition, Lakeside Country Club provides a scenic golf course that is open to the public.
For a small community, we offer a surprisingly large variety of delicious cuisine including restaurants which feature Mexican, Italian and Chinese food as well as the obvious Texas style barbecue!
This is merely the beginning of what Eastland has to offer. Contact us today for information on our town and the properties we have available. We'll help you find the home of your dreams.
